    Black Hills .223 75gr BTHP W/C

A few months ago I won a Savage Axis in .223 in a raffle. I have upgraded the stock to a Boyds Laminate. What a difference! Upgraded the plastic trigger guard to a stainless one made by Boyds also. Getting ready for glass. I have another 223 rifle that is sighted in for 50-62gr bullets. I would like to make this Axis a heavy bullet shooting .223
I was able to procure 150 rds of Black Hills 75gr BTHP W/C(waterproofed and crimped) to sight this rifle in with. I think 75gr is about the heaviest bullet available without going to a 77gr match bullet which are no good for hunting.
My question is...I found NO info on Black Hills website and they do not have a email for questions.
Are these bullets/loads any good for hunting? 75gr BTHP
    I'd hate to wound something.
    Thanks.

I would think a bthp wouldn't be a very good deer round but could be wrong. I wouldn't have a problem shooting pigs in the ear with it tho.

Do you know what twist that barrel is? Your going to need something in the 1 in 7 twist to stabilize those pills. I bet that barrel is a 1 in 9 or 1 in 12.

      I agree, on both counts.

It has a 9 twist barrel. 75 grain bullets are going to be pushing it. They may stabilize and they may not.

I would lean more towards the Barnes 62 grain TSX/TTSX, or the 62 grain Fusions. You will see better performance on whitetail and pigs.

Why not look for loaded 70gr tsx barnes? If it were me I would stick with something in the 60ish grain range, even though you already have a 223 setup for that. The corbon dlx hunter 62gr. is a pretty good load and any np bullet load would be good as well.

You can check out the barnes loading here http://www.midwayusa.com/product/423...ProductFinding

Can't help you on that load, but we shoot the black Hills with the Barnes bullet & it is the most accurate I have ever shot in our 223's. Very deadly on pigs & deer.

Thank you gentlemen...Never considered the twist...DUH.
I guess I'll get to looking for a 1:7 bbl for the black gun and keep the Axis shooting normal 223 weighted loads.

Look at the 65gr Sierra GameKing for bullet choice.

                75 grain HP

I shoot a 75 gr. bthp from bitter root valley, have shot three deer with them and dozens of pigs. I have never had a deer or a pig carry it more than 20 or 30 yards. Deadly load and wouldn't hesitate to shoot a deer with it and it is accurate. All of my buddies shoot the exact same round and we kill a bunch of pigs.
