    School me on Remington Sendero

Hey gun guys, please tell me the big differences between the old style sendero's vs. the new style and which one you prefer

I like the SF2 it seems to be better quality in my experience.

Be sure it has the pro mark trigger. There were problems with the old ones safety mech. Without touching the trigger you could have an AD just by taking the safety off safe. Has happened twice in my family with a 788. Once with my self and my nephew nearly shot my wife when he bumped the safety.

          original Sendero introduced in 1994

          long action calibers: 25-06, 7mag, 300 WM, 270, 7 STW ..... other calibers were introduced a few years later: 300RUM, 300 Wtby, 338 RUM ??

the short action version is known as the "Varmint Special" and offered in 223, 22-250, 308.

26" heavy matte barreled action, HS stock, weight around 8.5~9 lbs bare rifle ... excellent shooters

the VS SF (Varmint synthetic, stainless fluted) was introduced in 2008 with various LA calibers. I'm not familiar with the SA caliber options

the original Senderos shot "lights out" and bring $1200+ on the inet classifieds. I remember paying $399 for a used 300WM back in the days of Gun List magazine, pre-inet classifieds (1998 ??)

You can build a custom "Sendero" to the exact specs as an original for $1200

lots of for sale ads claim "Sendero" , only way to verify is the serial number to confirm date of manufacture , or seeing the rifle up close (pics) to inspect barreled action and stock paint job finish

re: the trigger, I've never experienced a problem , although some have. Since the recent Xmark trigger issues, the older triggers bring good money ($50-75) on the re-sale market. 99% of the time I have upgraded to a Jewell since all my rifles are custom built.

Great info! How many years did they make the originals? 1994-?

I fancy myself as a Sendero nerd. I have just about every one they've ever made. I prefer the old ones with the old wide trigger shoe. You just about cant go wrong with any of them that say Sendero on the side. The old versions were chrome moly and they new ones are stainless.

The new X-Mark pro trigger is junk throw it away and replace it with any after market trigger with a name starting with Jewel.

don't quote me , but I'm guessing 4-5 yrs before they changed the configurations in the stock and barrel hence the name change

also, some distributors i.e. Lipsey's, Accusport, Bill Hicks, etc... had "special runs" of the Sendero style rifles with laminate stocks. These were limited to 250-500 rifles.

Sendero rifles pretty much put HS Precision on the map b/c of the full length bedding block and great marketing

Also in the mid/late 90's, Remington offered the PSS (Police Sniper Synthetic) with an HS stock clone of the M24 sniper stock that had a palm swell. The 700PSS and 700 VS (varmint synthetic were nearly the same except stock options) . The 700PSS name was later changed to 700P or 700 Police and had a Detach Mag option , chambered in 308 and 223

Say what? Everyone hates the new trigger.

I hated and now like mine.....I'll love it when it consistently shoots 1/2". The newer ones don't say Sendero on them.

I have a Winchester Lerado Classic. I think it's a clone of the Sendero. The Lerado was only made for 4-5 years by Winchester. Anyone know about this gun. Mine is in 300 win.mag.
Not trying to steal your thread Shane. Just like to see the comparison from some gun guys.

Might pick one of these up at a decent price.

The earlier ones were great rifles Killed stuff as far as I could see with a 7 mag, but no knowledge beyond that

I picked up a 1999 model in 25-06 never fired. I don't much about them but this is a 8 shot group right out of the box.

They also did the police in a 300 win mag, if memory serves.
