So the Remmy 700 ACC 308 isn't on the production list so....

What rifle is similar in quality?
Really liked the houge stock and want a 308 to touch alittle further.

So what would be similar? Doesn't have to be threaded as I can get that done later on if needed.

I know there's the standard 700 sps tactical which is very similar

The VTR? I bet that built in muzzle break makes that dude bark loud!

Real looking at the howa heavy kryptek.

Thoughts on the accuracy and quality of the howa?

How accurate would the standard kryptek 308 be compared to the heavy barrel?

    All thoughts and opinions welcome!

I had a howa in 25-06 very accurate gun. Guy at work has a howa 308 heavy barrel and shoots on target at 1200 with it

Remington 700 AAC 16 and 20 inch threaded barrels are still in production. So is the Remington 700 5R 20 in threaded.

Yea I know. Should've worded it differently.
They aren't producing and more in the next 3-4 months and I have to order directly through them for work.

And I'm too impatient to wait so I gotta find another option.

Will be looking into the 5R

Get the 20" 5R. You won't regret it.

            Thanks.

If you get a different kind and want the Hogue stock I have a black one that I would sell you. Took it off before I ever shot the gun

I have the 308 AAC and its great. I want the ruger hawkeye compact in 243. Im all about compact and for what I do with a hunting rifle, I have no use for anything over 20''. Be careful if with getting a 26'' remington and cutting it down, most are the varmint model an have a 1:12 twist, so they will not get a bullet over 150 grains stable. That being said, I have a 20'' 1:12 .308 varmint that shoot 150 grain bullets lights out.

Not necessarily true. I have a 700 police which is a 1:12 cut down to 18"s and it shoots 168 and 178s just fine, (sub MOA) Now shooting 200 gr subs won't happen but I shoot 170gr subs just fine.

I do agree if he is planning in shooting subs etc a I agree a 1-10 would be better. But the 5r is 11.25 twist and he will be just fine with it.

Id go with the Sps tactical and then get it threaded later.

Pick up a HS stock later for it and you will be good to go.

That's all if u don't want to wait.

Bunch of the Remmy's aren't going into production again until the start of next year at the earliest. Going with the howa fluted heavy barrel 20" with a OD green houge stock.

Alittle cheaper too and should have it in a month.

                          Thanks for the input

I bought this Savage Model 10 an I am very pleased. My local gun shop was able to order it from a distributor and sell for less than $600.
