Gonna start an argument about. "Splash"

Please explain or give examples about bullet splashes on animals. I keep hearing about splashes on deer, coyotes, etc. I have shot deer, coyotes, hogs etc. with "varmint" bullets and have never seen this. Some say a 45 grain 22 cal. Bullet will splash on a coyote or a 55 grain on a deer etc. I have flat stoned deer and pigs with a high shoulder shot or lung shot with a 45 to 55 grain bullet with velocities from 3000fps to over 4000fps, and have never had a bullet fail to penetrate.

I'm with you here, I can say I have never shot an animal that it didn't penetrate except maybe a 22 on a big old hog

Thinking back over the years the only thing close I can think of close is an old dog coyote I shot on the point of the shoulder at about 20 yards. I hit him with a 55 grain vmax at about 3800 fps and you could have stuck a softball into his lungs. Penetration probably wasn't more than 6 inches.

Seen the same thing (though less extreme) with my grandfather shooting 130 bt's out of his 270 at around 85 yards.

Can't argue with that it knocked her eye out, what caliber and bullet if you don't mind .

I had a Kel-tec SU16 .223 a couple of years ago. Shot a big spike in SHNF at about 30 yards with a 55 grain. Hit him right on the shoulder and down he went. Thought he was dead so I started down the ladder only to turn and see him stand up and start licking a big bloody raw spot on his shoulder about the size of a softball. He looked at me then trotted down the trail with barely a limp.

Sold that gun after that and have only gun hunted with a .308 since then.

.243 I think. Don't feel like searching for the thread again. From another member

May I ask what You mean by "can't argue with that"? Is that something you'd find as a positive result?

I have seen a .300 RUM splash on a whitetail doe hit front shoulder with a 168 gr sierra match boat tail hollow point that was loaded hot. Blew the front shoulder up and required a 2nd shot to down her.

I'd say it was positive as to what I asked about, but not positive as to cleanly killing a deer. I've always heard about a bullet blowing up on the skin but never seen proof, I guess that is proof it can happen.

I've killed deer, hog, dogs, Bobcats with .223 55 grain 22-250 55 grain and .243 60 grain to 100 grain and have never seen this. Longest is 405 yards with 55 grain federal boat tail hollow point on a deer and she ran 50 yards and piled up. But then again I head neck and vital shoot through the ribs. I never try to put a 55 grain into the point of the shoulder.

Think he is saying, proves the splash question ''it does happen''

Never mind see where he answered sorry about that

I think what he is is trying to say is, that is a good example. Talking about the picture. Another words, no one can say that it can't happen .
