I would go with 223 in an AR 1/8 or 1/7 barrel. This will allow you to shoot lighter varmint bullets and heavier ones for hogs. AR is more than accurate out to 300yds for both.

I've killed a bunch of varmints and hogs with my AR

Think bullet choice instead of caliber. 223 or 22-250 could both be perfect if the proper bullet is used.

I'm a new fan of the 223. Don't see how you can go wrong with it.

Depends on how far your shootin. Takin shots at pigs at the end of a long field 6.5 or 7mm.

                    22-250 with 50 gr tsx.
                    Little damage on predators.
                    Devastating on hogs.

Anything you can shoot well will work.

I'm not concerned with saving the pelt on hogs or predators, nor am I a fan of tracking them after the shot. My single shot 45-70 accommodates both of my inclinations in this matter.

I've shot bobcats, foxes and yotes with 22-250 and 223 both using 55gr vmax the exit hole was pretty bad. There's no problem with pigs for either cal just good shot placement. Want to start shooting predators with my 17hmr to see how that does

Usually it is a 223 pushing a 55 grain Nosler ballistic tip (handloads).
