    Scope Help/Opinion

I had been looking for a nice rifle and scope for some time and decided on a new SAKO A7 in 243. I purchased the gun from one store and was planning on purchasing a used Zeiss Conquest 4.5-14 from another business and have them mount the scope. The guy that mounted the Zeiss was unable to get the crosshairs low enough to bore sight the rifle for some reason. Various good quality scopes were tried with all having the same result. Various sets of rings were tried also with no luck. It was recommended that I return the gun to where I bought it as they felt something must be wrong with the receiver or 2 piece bases that came with the gun.

I returned the rifle and they want to try it themselves before we start the return process and I agree to that and hand them the Zeiss scope. They were not able to get it low enough either and recommend changing the bases. They installed Leopold bases that have the elevation adjustment feature on the back but did not fix the problem. They then mounted a Leopold 3-10 50 mm Vari 3 and everything lined up.

What is the GS opinion on this? This rifle/scope combo was expensive and want to make sure everything is right. Is this common? I have very limited experience with mounting scopes so am turning to you guys.

They did ask me to shoot it and let them know how it shot, around 1/2" group at 100 yds. so I was pleased with that.

What you have just figured out is that Zeiss conquest has less internal adjustments than the Leupold VX3 line. Ive had the same issue. But combated it by a different base.

I also had to send one of Zeiss's in once because it wouldn't hold zero after i was chasing a low POI I couldn't reach. they fixed it and sent it back free of charge and its currently on a different rifle.

Leupold VX3 3.5-10x50 has Elevation and Windage range that is 52 MOA for both.

Zeiss Conquest 4.5-14x44 has 43 MOA of elevation

Depending on how far you had to go that 9 MOA could make a difference.
