    shipping a AR-15

If a person privately sells an ar-15 to another person who can legally have a firearm in the state of texas is it still legal to ship that item via usps or ups if no one can be located for a tbh express

legally yes...both copies of your ID / drivers Lic should be included with shipment in case atf intercepts. While legal with atf, your problem is both usps & ups do not allow private transactions per their own policies. They require an ffl with the shipment for the person receiving.

You can lie or not disclose what the item is, but if it gets damaged or stolen...you are out of luck.

USPS will ship long guns person to person intrastate (no FFL involved). I just shipped one a couple weeks ago like that. UPS will do it to, but you have to take it to one of their hub facilities to do it. FedEx will ship ammo from their hub, but not long guns. USPS will not ship ammo.

Just be warned that the ding dongs behind the counter may not know their own rules...I've had all 3 shippers tell me I can't ship pistols being an ffl.

I either manager up or just go somewhere else...you get numb after dealing with it after a while.

Yep. The guy behind the counter at the post office told me he couldn't ship the rifle without FFL. His coworker in the next cubicle spoke up and told him he could. I was about to ask him to call his manager over so we could get it explained. They almost never know.

Hmmmm, Paul I don't think its wise to put your DL in a package being shipped by common carrier or USPS.

And are you required to disclose when shipping a long gun intrastate with USPS? I have just insured for replacement value which will require a signature for delivery.

I have my name and address on the return label. If ATF or anybody else wants to find me, they'll find me with that.

I remember asking an agent and said it was a requirement, but I never confirmed with the actual law Mike...to me it makes sense, it is no different than having the ffl with firearm. IF atf intercepts, the address on the package has to be that of ffl.

Anyone can put a bogus address on the package...The address on the id should match the address on the package for atf to have traceability, but again this was all vocal.

The owner of the UPS hub I've used exclusively for the past 5 yrs told me to just put down "gun parts" in the contents section. I usually pull or seperate the bolt/upper/lower from each other and individually wrap them , then ship them together that way.
