    Shipping FFL Question

My grandfather past away and left me his old 30-30 rifle. Currently my cousin up in Michigan has it and needing to send it to me. I was wondering can she ship the rifle through USPS without an FFL just as long as the rifle is coming to a FFL dealer by me?

Never been through the process so this is all new to me.

Should not be a problem. Have your ffl send him a copy of his license. He can take that with the gun to his post office and mail it. He will probably need to send a copy of his drivers license along as well. If they give him any grief tell him to have them check their postal regulations book. Normally it's not a hassle but it depends on the individual post office. Some know the rules and some do not. But yes it is perfectly legal for him to ship to your ffl without going through one on his end.

Fed ex overnight service will deliver firearms except pistols

Must take to fed ex location

Recently I had a shotgun shipped in a plastic gun case that was taped shut from another state

Service works great as you know when it will be delivered and have tracking info

If it didn't go thru an ffl an interstate transfer is illegal.

It is a hassle to go through post office. Everyone thinks they understand rules an interprets the way they want. Find a ffl on line pay 30 bucks an have shipped

This has all the answers you need to shipping firearms: https://www.atf.gov/content/firearms...censed-persons

Short answer is yes a non-licensee (ATF-speak for mere mortals not possessing an FFL) may mail a long gun to a licensee (ATF-speak for an FFL-holder) in any state.

Short answer, yes, BUT, your cousin may have to speak to a supervisor to get it done, it's not done that often and many of the regular clerks don't think it can be done. I've had better luck using Fedex or UPS.
