    Cheap safe, climate control issues.

I know the answer to my question is to buy a nice safe and put it in the house but that is not feasible right now. So I have a cheap Homak steel box safe. I am having issues keeping rust under control only on two of my guns. My older 870 and my savage 10. I have cleaned and re cleaned both and never put them away without wiping them down and oiling them but it keeps coming back. I am Starting to think that the cheap un insulated safe in the garage is my problem. Is there anything I can do to control moisture/humidity in the box? Any advice besides buy a better safe and move it in the house would be much appreciated.

    Thanks,

I have two dehumidifiers in my safe. one is a reusable plug in model. When it fills with water you plug it in an outlet and it recharges (Remington Brand I think), I also throw in a couple of the humidity control packets that you have to replace every 6 or so months. These seem to work just fine in my safe.

There are quite a few desiccant packets you can buy that are designed for safes. They don't work as well as a dehumidifier but they really help. Here is an example:

        Thanks gentlemen,
I knew there was a simple cheap solution out there somewhere. Tractor Supply sell the rechargeable units for $20.

I just use a small light bulb. It produces enough heat to prevent any moisture.
