    Best bird gun with utility?

    Hey guys,

I have a question for all you veteran shotgunners out there. I have a reasonably good sized firearm collection that I need to refine. Some guns are staying for sentimental value, but others will be culled. That said, I'm realizing that I want to kind of have a gun safe with mostly jacks, rather than aces. I know that doesn't make sense, but here's what I mean -

I want a new (better) shotgun. I have...I think 4, between here and back home. I don't need 4 shotguns (gasp, I know). What I mean is, I'd love to have one go-to shotgun that I can hunt all kinds of things with - dove, ducks, geese, turkeys, and even deer if I needed to. Knowing myself, I'll actually USE it more if I make the element of choice what I'm hunting rather than what I'm hunting with - make any sense?

Now, I'm willing to spend some coin, but I don't need any One-Of Berettas that I have to import from a country I can't properly pronounce.

Any gauges and models are welcome for suggestions. I appreciate all opinions, thanks!

    Black synthetic SBE II

Had mine for 17+ years and got it for the same reasons that you are looking for.

Never failed one single time and have shot the lightest of loads to the heaviest 3.5"

I've hunted every flying critter between south Texas and Lang, SK.

    Good luck with your decision.

If I'm understanding you right I would suggest a rem 870 12 gauge. Will handle anything from dove to turkey or deer. I love my o/u but during quail and the special goose seasons it's nice to have a few extra shots. Also no matter the weather weather, dirt or grime a pump is basically bomb proof.

Rem 870 or Mossberg 500 if you want a pump
Rem 1187 or Mossberg 930, or 935 if you want an auto

Either way, get 2 or 3 barrels and you can change them out to suit your needs.
28" vent rib with chokes for all wing shooting
Rifled Slug Barrel with a scope for deer/hogs
and maybe an 18" Home defense type barrel if you like.

I have a few shotguns myself, but I always carry my SBE II. From dove to greater Canadians. I shoot it the most, I'm confident in it, and it never slows down.

Another vote for the SBE II, mine rarely gets cleaned, see's lots of action, and never lets me down. If you want a pump then Rem 870 or Moss 500.

If you've discounted Beretta because they're imported or you can't pronounce the country of origin then you missed the boat entirely

this is arguably one of the best semi-auto shotguns on the market

because Remington QC sucks and the investment company that owns them only cares about making money.

Most European gun companies still believe in "old world craftsmanship" and would rather produce 1000 super quality guns , than 10,000 POS guns that are often returned for warranty work

The Europeans still practice age old traditions of upland game bird hunting and pigeon shooting. Most American companies practice "mass production" and pay advertisers & endorsers $$ to sell/market guns. Euro guns sell themselves based on name, history, and reliability

The first gun that comes to mind is the Remington 870. However, if you find a waterfowl gun that you could sling slugs out of, it would easily cover all critters.

I personally love my bennelli nova pump. Easy to maintain, versatile, and fires in rain, sleet, ice, and even coated in mud duck hunting.
