    Dove question?

The doves I hunt come over high and fast. What kind of ammo and choke should I use. I shoot? I shoot a 12 gauge and a 20 gauge. I am thinking of going to a high brass round. I am shooting Rio's now, # 8's in a modified choke.

7 & 1/2 shot heavy dove in a modified choke is my go to. Will handle a lot of situations. If you're still having trouble connecting try a full choke.

I don't think most people lead the birds enough including myself. On a high flying bird or any bird think about how far you would lead that bird if you were shooting it with your bow then lead it about 1/4 as much. 1200 fps shotgun vs 300 fps compound bow.

I shoot a 12 ga Winchester AA #9 with the highest amount of powder usually 3 or 3.25 dr.eq powder shot them for years a little more expensive but I save the hulls and sell them back usually every 3 years and get anough money to get a case of shells

I shoot a lot of birds and it's not uncommon to have anywhere between a 4-8 ft lead so u may not be leading enough would be my guess

I've thought about switching to 9s but I can't find them any where but online.

I'll bet 90% of misses on dove are behind. When it's windy and they are really zooming, it is sometimes hard to force yourself to get far enough out in front of them. I just keep increasing
my lead until they start dropping

Thats exactly what I was shooting today Rio 8 out of my Beretta a400 extreme Unico. On the ones in range similar to skeet I shot 7 out of 7. However on the high fast ones at first I couldnt hit them. The way I found out what my problem was was on a large flock flying over I had led the lead dove by 3 barrel lenghts, when I shot I dropped the 3rd one back! So next group I led them by 6 or 7 (which seemed to be way to far in my head) and dropped him! So you more than likely were not leading them enough.
