Overall fit to the shooter, in terms of size-shape of the stock and a good recoil pad will eliminate a lot of the perceived kick.[/QUOTE]

It's been my experience that guns with synthetic stocks kick harder than wood stocks. Just a data point.

Just buy a 22-250 and let the boys kill stuff. They'll learn to shoot good because it DONT kick at all. It's always my first choice for new shooters.

Good hearing protection is a must too. The muzzle blast from the my 25/06 is pretty good, but the recoil isn't bad at all

I have all 3 and to me the .25-06 and 7mm-08 have a very similar level of recoil. The .243 has noticeably less recoil. Any of the 3 can be good for kids depending on their size and experience.

The 7mm-08 shooting Remington Managed Recoil loads is very similar to a .243 in recoil. That is what my son has been shooting for several years. It has killed them just fine.

We shoot Barnes Vortex factory ammo in my daughter's youth model Remington 700 .243 shooting 80gr TTSX bullets. It is very mild. I highly recommend this setup for a new shooter.

The lighter the gun (in Lbs.) the more felt recoil.

The heavier the bullet in a caliber, the more felt recoil.
