Best Method to Ship A Shotgun

What is the proper way to ship a shotgun within the state? I do not have an FFL (and didn't think I needed one within Texas).

What is the best/cheapest/least hassle carrier?

    Thanks!

First of all, pack it like you are thinking it might get run over by a tank. Bubble wrap, newspaper, and foam packing peanuts aren't enough unless there is a bunch of it. Take the barrel off and wrap separately so you can make a shorter package. Long packages are more susceptible to someone stepping in the middle and then you've got a stock cracked in the grip area.

You don't need an FFL to ship long guns to another resident in-state. I've used both FedEx and UPS and if you tell them it is a firearm, it complicates things, like maybe having to go to a central location to ship it. If you don't tell them it is a firearm and damage occurs, you will have problems with the insurance claim for damages.

Best thing to do IMO is buy a cheap hard case and ship it inside the cardboard box, with extra padding. Good luck.

And before someone says it you DONT need:
        A bill of sale
        A copy of their DL
A hair folicle from their neighbor
A background check on their first born
        A job history
        or Their grandmothers maiden name.

        These post get ridiculous sometimes.

We seriously need a sticky about shipping firearms here and in the classifieds.

This. First time I told them I'm shipping a firearm they give me a look like "ok...so what?". And I thought they were going to harass me for the FFL and what not. Also, it's cheap as hell compared to the non-federal carriers. And FYI, apparently you don't need to tell them you're what it is.

If you can take it apart to ship, it will be easier. Pack it good. Walk into a post office and ship priority mail. It's not expensive, it's legal, and it's easy.

Has something changed recently? I'm reading that it must be sent Priority Mail Express. Only option I see is 1 day which is pretty pricey. What have y'all paid in the past?

Actually see you can ship Priority if its registered...appears to be a bit cheaper.

Not to hijack. Make sure you put plenty of packing. This box came from Dallas area to us by UPS. Even hard case was damaged
