    Remington 11-87 gunsmithing help needed

I have an 11-87 that is about 10-12 years old. It is the super mag (takes up to 3 1/2" shells). I have had no issues with it until recently. It has always eaten all shells regardless of charge, price, or lengh. So It isn't the shells. Recently when I fire the shotgun with 2 extra in the magazine, the bolt gets stuck in the back position like it should when I run out of shells. It dose this most of the time. I stripped it and cleaned it really well and tried again. It still jammed. I then dissasembled it and replaced the action spring and all components of the action tube. It is still a single shot.

The one thing I did not do, which I should have done first is replace the o-ring. It isn't very old and I inspected it, but I did not replace it.

    Does anyone have any ideas?

    Two questions.
    Is the empty fully ejecting?
Is the next shell been released from mag tube and just laying on carrier?

    Need these before next recommendation

      Yes and yes.

It looks like the new shell doesn't hit the release hard enough at the back of the carrier to make it go.

        Ok.
More than likely in carrier latch. Sometimes they break off a small ear that is trip lever for it. Not noticeable unless you know what to look for. If it's not that. Try new mag spring and make sure inside mag tune is clean.
When the super mag acts up it can be trouble sometimes to figure it out.
Also. A lot of the parts are super mag specific.

Can the carrier latch be replaced by it'self or do I have to buy a trigger group?

The inside of the magazine tube is clean, but it is the original magazine spring tube.

You say it isn't the shells, but have you tried other brands? Mine goes through times where it will cycle cheap shells, but next time on a new box it won't. I don't shoot the underpowered shells anymore and I never have issues. But if I can make a change so I can shoot anything at any time I will probably do it.

Yes. Carrier latch can be replaced by itself.

I inspected the carrier latch and it looks exactly like the one on brownells website. It only has a few places where the blueing is worn off. There are no cracks, broken pieces, or burrs.

What makes the carrier lift the new shell up after the shot is fired?

Ya probably need a new Oring also. Get one, cannot hurt, might even fix the ejection problem.
