    Glock's new finish

Anybody have any experience with the new finish Glock is using? I know it's not as durable as the old finish, by a long shot, but how does it compare to, say Ceracoat? I just got a G35, with the new finish, and it was literally immaculate. The only Glock holster i had was an old fobus paddle back. In less than 10 draws from that holster, i can already see wear marks....they're tiny and faint, but I know they are there. Now, don't get me wrong, my guns are tools, so holster wear usually isn't a big deal to me, but we all know what that first scratch feels like. I just want to know if I'm going to be refinishing this thing in a year, or 5 years.

Depends on how much you use it. Anything is going to wear fast in a holster with lots of in and outs. Cerakote isn't going to be any better...

Thanks Eco. That's about what I figured. I know they all wear, but my last Glock, with the old tennifer finish, rode in a holster for a few years, and got about as many draws as most police Glock's, enough to qualify with, plus in and out each time I left the house with it and returned with it. Out still looked brand new when I sold it. This new finish they are using looks nice, but it doesn't have near the durability. And I know kydex can be hard on any finish, but I didn't expect it to scratch it with the first few draws. I'm going to get a better holster soon, probably a Serpa but in the mean time i just wanted to get out and send a few rounds downrange to test out the new toy. Toy works great, cheapo Fobus holster not so much.

I can echo what Ecoboost said. However, the cerakote finish is much better than the new Glock finish. Mine has some wear, but it gets worn daily and shot weekly, so I can't and don't expect it to look like when I first got it coated

Did Glock get rid of the Tenifer finish or just change the paint that goes over it?

I'm not sure, but whatever the outermost coating is, it's not what it used to be. It looks different, feels different, and wears different. I heard they switched away from tennifer all together because the application process for tennifer is not environmentally friendly.

Yes. Something they used for the Tenifer finish is banned when they moved here so they can't put the old finish on it anymore. That's according to a gunsmith I took my Glock to just Tuesday. He also does cerakote and says his is much more durable then the newer finish Glock finish.

I heard the exact same thing from my local go to guy. I have no experience with cerakote...yet!

My buddy just sanded his slide so it would have the worn look.

Haha not quite. But he does like the arsenal of democracy reaper 33 that was hated on a while back. Has the same look.

Glock stopped using tenifer several years ago. It and the replacement Gas Nitration process absent the cyanide gas are a metal treatment and are not what you see when you look at the metal on a Glock. Glock has gone through several surface coatings over the years.
