New rifle build about to start, need info on 280 rem.

I'm about to start a new rifle build. I sold my last good long range plinker / hunter to fund my divorce. I had a rem 700, 26" barreled 308 with action work, bedded, and floated, Jewel trigger and good scope it was a cheap mans 800 yard gun. .5 moa all day long with my hand loads. I like shooting out to 600 and 800 when I can, for gong shooting and yote dogs. Anyway I'm preparing to start a new one, was planning on 308 but 280 rem has caught my eye. Its fast, its flat, and 7mm has plenty of bullet selections. How accurate is it? Basically what I want to know is can it shoot as consistent as 308.

I'm going to do XLR evolution chassis, rem 700 action, have the action blueprinted, and squared, good 24" barrel matched to the action. Jewel trigger, badger bolt knob, 20 moa badger base, and haven't decided on optics yet. This will be threaded and sporting a suppressor as well. Not looking to load subsonic though. I want something good for pigs and deer out to 250 or maybe 300 yards and something I can get .5 moa or better with the above mentioned work.

It's as accurate as any other long action caliber built on a 30-06 case.

    If you're gonna go 280 why not 280AI ?
In either event you're talking about a cartridge you're gonna have to hand load for in order to get the most out of it.
H4831 is my go to powder for it w 140-168 gr bullets.

One of my favorite deer rounds for sure.

2k is about what I was planning on spending, and the AI looks promising. I do hand load for everything I shoot so no issues there.

My primary go to rig has been the 280AI since the 90's!!

Much better round over the standard if you reload...norma is making decent brass ready to go too.

              No fire forming!!

I have shot a 280 rem for years. 700 bdl out of the box. Bedded including action an a good trigger job on the FACTORY trigger. It shoots tied hole five shot groups. On a cool calm day it will shoot a five shot group that the base of the hull will completely cover.

Im shooting 54.5 gr h4350 behind a 140gr sierra spbt. Experiment with seating as long as you can for best results. Deer killer!

If I was building one for coyotes and still shoot little groups at 600 yards, it would be one of the 6mm versions. You would be hard pressed to beat the 243 for your intended purpose.

Thread and brake with a cap when not needed and you have a nice soft shooting rifle.

I have a 243 already. Its a hell of a shooter but I want more weight for whitetails and pigs.
