Looking to get my first AR...any advice?

Like the title says, I've been kicking around the idea of getting a AR. Right now I'm looking at spending between $1500-1800. I'll be getting the gun mainly for pig/varmint hunting and range shooting. As of now I'm leaning toward ordering a LaRue PredatAR 5.56 or a Daniel Defense.

I know there are a lot of guys here on TBH with great knowledge when it comes to ARs. So, my question is what would be the best gun for the money to fit the needs of what I looking to do? Any other advice for a first time AR buyer will be appreciated too. Thanks

Take the extra time and effort to buy the parts and build it yourself and you will be happy you did. You will get a much much better gun for the money and be very proud of it. I have one that I bought off the shelf and even though its a nice weapon I don't care about it at all like I do the ones I've built. By the way it is easy and youtube was my only guide.

X3 I am just topping my first build and first ar platform. I went the 308 route and I tell ya what, it is easy to spend and very additive with so many parts to choose. It's a lot of fun and you get to know the weapon.

LaRue is great in all... But for what you want.. Save 800 bucks and get a rock river or comperable. No point in going high end. LaRue is somewhat not very changeable from what I have been told. They do it their way and expect you to keep it that way.

Depending on where you are at, I am sure there is a shop that can help you build a custom AR and it will be exactly what you want.

I would go the cheaper route since you are new to them. There are a lot of little things that can be changed. Find one, shootit. Upgrade what you want different.

For all the "build a better rifle for less money" crowd post up your build sheet.

Because I call BS. You can build a cheaper rifle, but not of the same quality. Show me what you can build for $900.

In the mean time, OP go to www.m4Carbine.net and find out what is a quality rifle and what isn't.

I have a larue and love it. However, I didn't have to get on the wait list for mine

Hard to beat the larue predatar, but I definitely can build something better than a noveske gen 3 for about a grand cheaper.

Aero M4e1 upper/lower/rail combo (UPK and barrel nut included) -$354
                  Noveske N4 barrel (includes gas block/tube/roll pin) - $450
                  JP bolt carrier group- $369
                  LPK w/o trigger - $39
                  Geissele SSA trigger - $210
                  CTR stock - $76
Buffer kit - $55 (on sale from rainier)
                  Muzzle brake - $50

                  total - $1603

I spent a good bit on my build but I'm very happy with it! I shot a .584" 5 shot group @ 100 yards with this 6.8 build

Why is it the best ever made?
