    Anyone ever seen this before?

As I was loading my 45-70, this weekend, one of the shells looked funny.
This was out of an unopened box of Federal Premium ammo.

It just looked weird. It didn't click until Brandon Ermis laughed and said "the primer's in backwards".

I thought I was the only one that had that happen . Luckily the primer wont go off from that side should you have chambered it.

I understand how easily this can happen when hand loading. As a kid, I loaded thousands of rounds of 20ga and 12ga, for my dad, with a MEC shotgun press. My dad drilled me on the procedure for a LONG time before he turned me loose. The first check, after deprime and resize was to drop the primer into the press and CHECK to make sure it didn't turn over.

My thoughts too. I never expected to see this in factory loaded ammo.
Well, at least not in a "not cheap" box.

I sent Federal an email. This is their response.

            Kevin:

Thank you for the e-mail and the positive feedback. Can you tell us what the load\product number is off the box, this could look like P4570T4 or something similar? Also, what is the lot number off the box; this is an ink stamped letter and number combination and usually is on the back of the box or on the inside of one of the two end flaps if you lay them flat?

We would like to get that round back here for quality training. If you could package that round into a small cardboard box and tape securely closed or a padded envelope, we can have a UPS driver come to your address with a prepaid shipping label, they will not leave the label they will place it on the package and bring back here for us to examine. We do not have the actual label to send to you either; the UPS driver will print it and bring with them at the time of pick up. UPS does make 3 attempts to pick up the package and they will not come out on weekends or holidays, if you are comfortable with leaving the package out for the UPS driver to pick up, please do so. Let us know if this works for you and we will contact UPS, we unfortunately cannot pick the day or time they will arrive, UPS schedules pickups for when it best works for the driver in your area.

In return for that round and your time and attention to this matter we will mail you a $10.00 refund check.

            Thanks
            Federal

Wow, I've never seen it in a factory load but it happened to me before I switched to hand primer.

                $10 refund? hahahahahaha

You know, this is one of the many reasons to reload.

Although.... I have accidentally put a primer in like that when i first started. I was scared it was going to pop while depriming LOL. Taught me a good lesson for sure!!

I told her that I'd rather have a shirt or a cap or more ammo, rather than the $10.

She said she'd send me a shirt.

Glad everything turned out well! I've done that with a pistol round, removing the primer had me nervous

That works. $2 Federal shirt. Maybe $3

Looks like something whacked it pretty good on the rim next to the 0 in 70.

Look at it this way, from now on if someone posts about this happening to them you can say, "been there, got the t-shirt."
