    STI Spartan IV - Question

I am getting a STI Spartan IV for my graduation gift from my parents. I think the only thing I am not going to care for on it is the wood grips both look and maybe feel wise. Not quite sure yet. After a lot of research I have concluded this is the best entry level 1911 money can buy so its what I am going to get. Does anybody have one that has swapped out the grips or has pics of what they have done to theirs? Just trying to get some ideas. Also, any advice on tuning or other things to do to this gun let me know. I am all ears. Thanks guys!

Grips will be the same size as a government model, so you have an insane number of choices. Personally I've got some VZ diamondbacks on my springfield operator.

Tangential question: why'd you decide on a commander?

I read that you start losing accuracy with anything smaller than 4inch barrel and I just didn't want the full size barrel. Partially for looks and other for feel.

Grip choices are too many to list. You can do anything from the Magpul poly grips (I'm a fan, and they are $20), to exotic wood both with and without checkering, to G10 type grips. Cost varies on materials. Other than that, run a bunch of ammo through the gun to get used to the feel of the recoil and operation of the firearm. Only other upgrades would be some more magazines-I run Wilson Combat 47D's and Tripp Research Cobra Mags in my 1911's.

Cool thanks. I've heard the mags aren't much to brag about but still load the ammo fine.

            X2

Not only does Virgil Tripp make some awesome 1911 magazines, he's also the guy who started STI (Strayer-Tripp International).

I have a Spartan V and run Wilson ETM's through it. Haven't had a single issue. As far as grips go, you will just have to play around with a bunch and see what feels good in your hand.

Now y'all have me thinking of some Tripp mags.

Have a couple of Wilsons I'm not that happy with...

I'd get some VZ operator grips.

Wilson and Tripp mags are the best!

Already checked those out!! I like what I see. I am assuming the magazines I get for the Spartan IV will be full size?
