To re blue or not to re blue....

I have a old rem 700 .243 my grandpa gave me I know it's a late 60s if not pre 64 rifle. It has a little rust on the barrel not pitted or anything you can tell it's got some wear. I wanna refurbish it but am wondering if i really should? What do the gun gurus say ? I do not want it re barreled

Try oil and steel wool to remove rust.

I would get rid of the rust and leave it be in my opinion. Leave the "character" on it for later generations just keep it oiled to prevent further rust.

You mentioned it possibly being a pre 64 I was always under the impression that only applied to win model 70s but I could be completely wrong and open for schooling on the matter.
