How about a collapsible stock? I have a pistol grip just for fun but I am much more accurate with something I can shoulder and aim down sights properly with.
I prefer a pistol grip on an M4 style stock. It help to adjust the length of pull for when I either wearing or not wearing heavy gear. It's also helpful when you're behind cover. Sometimes the ability to adjust the length of the stock really helps. W/ pistol grip, I have better control when going over fences and such as well as manipulating the weapon during reloading. I'm speaking specifically about a reload after shots were fired and there's a lull in the action and you want to top off while keeping the weapon pointed down range. For administrative reloads, it's really irrelevant.
Personally I find that the pistol grip tends to jump a bit (into my cheek) when shooting very heavy loads. I suspect the hand-over-top grip used in a standard configuration buffers this a bit.
So if this is a shotgun that is intended to double as trap gun (or as a turkey gun) and you expect to fire 50-100 rounds thru it in a session, you may wish to try one for a bit first.
I have a promag 870 tactical setup and I do not like the pistol grip. I find that for me it was hard to maneuver with it. Plus I really do not like the forend that came with the setup. IT has rails all over it and I find it not comfortable in my hands.
