    Colt M1991a1 question

Hey I received a really clean colt M1991a1 in SS. Got a colt mag, 2 Wilson combat mags and an EL Paso Saddlery leather holster. I'll admitt I've never owned or fired a 1911 style pistol and know very little about it. It's all factory and is there anything I need to upgrade on it. I haven't shot it yet and the previous owner stated he shot less than a box through it. Any info will be appreciated and I am liking my new to me Father's Day gift.

How would this gun compare to say the new Ruger 1911 or SW base model 1911?

I use mine as my daily carry gun.
I have had it since 1995.
The 1991 is their, was their BASE low in economy gun at one time I believe.

When I got it, I bought it for like $499.
It has double springs and a short guide rod.
The barrel is different than a regular barrel.

I had a hook up to parts......
So I took it home put in upgraded
SEAR, HAMER, TRIGGER, Springs, Beaver tail.
    - It made the gun 100% different.

I have over the years also added an extended mag well, which I personally like.

It will get the job done.

Shoot it, see if you like it.

Another question about the m1991a1. Will standard 1911 grips fit properly on the 1991a1? The rubber grips are okay, but I'm looking at some micarta or exotic wood slim grips. I think it will dress it up as far as looks go. Thanks for info on the subject!

No comparison, the colt is a way better gun, SW should stick to making wheel guns and Ruger, rifles and shot guns.

The 1991 originally started out as parkerized instead of stainless or blued so all parts interchange.

I love mine but don't carry because it really heavy. Great shooter for sure.

We'll I will upgrade the grips soon. It's in great shape and will keep it's close to factory as possible. Now just have to decide on what grips look best on the matte slide with polished sides. Thanks for the info fellas.

One man's opinion. s&w makes a dang fine 1911. In my opinion I would own a s&w before I ever buy another Kimber!

Well I like the colt, but I have nothing to compare it to due to my limited experience with 1911.

First things first is that we need to shoot it. Then we can shoot my kimber so you can see what you like and don't like.

After that we can customize it the way you want it, or just trade it for the Ruger lol
