    Bedding a VTR

To the gun gurus on the GS; have any of you bedding a Remington 700 VTR. I'm specifically asking about using the factory stock. I removed the barrel and looked in the barrel channel in the stock, which has a ton of space to fill with some compound and strengthen the stock. I cannot get any paper to fit down the barrel anywhere and this gun does not shoot a very tight group, but is at least 1.5". I'm curious if I did a couple of layers of tape down the underside of the barrel and followed the amazing bedding thread instructions if that would work? I've always read that a free floated barrel always shoots better.

It doesn't 'always' shoot better. But it's a good place to start if your getting poor groups. I wouldn't bother personally. You can pick up a b&c for around 200 and start off ahead
