Yep, lever action .22. Then, when he's ready to start, you start with a Daisy Red Rider BB gun, then transition him to the lever action .22. Later, he'll want a 30/30 and by the time he outgrows that, he can buy his own dang guns!

Bam! I started with a Daisy and graduated up to a Rossi pump action .22 that I still have. First rifle was a 30/30 and first shotty was an old 870 Wingmaster in 16 gauge.

I agree, you can't go wrong with a nice .22. I have a 2-1/2 year-old boy and another son on the way. I imagine I'll get them each set up with a nice lever action rimfire when they're old enough. I learned to shoot with my dad's lever action Winchester, but the first gun he gave me was a 12 gauge Winchester 1200 when I was 10.

As he gets older and more capable, get him a nice lever action 22 or 10/22.

Everyone of my grand kids I buy there first rifle
Each one has received a Cricket or chipmunk on there 4th birthday
On there 8th birthday they get a 10/22

i got my boys a Ruger 10/22 and a .410 they are now 10 & 7 and love them. My friend and I take our boys out to his farm and shoot snakes and turttles in the stock tank and they have a blast!
