Need helping deciding on a 22-250

Trying to decide if I should get an older Remington BDL varmint special or a new Tikka T3 Varmint in .22-250. I have read up a bunch on the Tikka's and they have a reputation for outstanding accuracy. More difficult to find opinions on the Remington's besides their good looks - high gloss wood stock with the bdl end cap.

Anyone have experience shooting one or the other with factory ammo? I would mostly be using this for blind hunting or sitting over a prairie dog down - not hiking around with it calling. So, I'm not concerned with the weight of the heavy bull barrel.

more important than brand name is the twist rate and length of barrel. 1:12" is ideal for this round and something around 24". remington has been using 1:14" for forever which means longer bullet stabilization is less likely leaving you with light and limited choices.

Get both and let your friend shoot whichever one you don't like.

I went the Savage due to the 1-12 twist and love it. When I do shootout this barrel I will get a 1-8 twist to shoot the 80gr pills.

A clean older bdl varmint will hold it's value & has a much better cool factor...do not overlook the 700 VS SF model.

Out of the two you listed, I would go with the Tikka. Personally, mine is a Savage model 12FV, and it shoot itty bitty groups.

                  my suggestion:

                  buy older Rem 700 SA - $350
send to PacNor , true action, custom barrel - $525
                  HS (used , take-off) or BC stock - $ 225

$1100 and your custom, tack-driver is done

cant speak for that caliber but my tikka will group tight enough to cover with a dime at 100 yards. Best shooting rifle i have ever owned. All with plain Remington cor-lok , cheap as i can find

You cannot beat the older 700 BDL's. I have a 700 VSSF in the 220 Swift and you could not pay me enough to part with it. The older Remington's are fantastic out of the box rifles.
