    Opinions on .17 Mach 2

I've got a beautiful little T/C semi-auto in .17 Mach 2. Now presently I've got about 800 rounds of this little caliber but have had no luck finding any more.

I was talking to the owner of our sporting goods store about this and he said he thinks that ammo for that caliber will be very tough to find due to a combination of the round not being very popular and not being able to reload this rim fire and suggested I sell the rifle (no not to him) right now that I've got some ammo for it and sell the ammo along with the rifle to facilitate the sale.

I love the way this little rifle/caliber combo shoot but am hesitant to shoot as this is a caliber much like the .22 that you can go thru a couple of boxes of 50 round easily.

    Any thoughts on this.

When I was researching on getting a 17 HMR I stumbled upon this round and from the specs thought it would be cool. Couple hours of research and I read roughly 80% bad things on the caliber and not much positive stuff so I stuck with the HMR.

I wonder if you could rebarrel it to 22lr?

I love my Mach 2. You just have to look around ammo. Local Academy got a shipment in last month and I bought it all. I have probably 3000 rounds of it.

17 Mach2 arguably the baddest squirrel cartridge developed

no meat damage and I would have no problem taking 75 yd shots

            my toy

CB I knew it was a matter of time before you posted up a beauty of a gun. I look forward to seeing your toys.

What was the price of a standard 50rd box of Mach 2 prior to this ammo scare? Does anyone remember?

i got eley on sale for $6.49 i believe before the shortage. I have a CZ 452. My major complaint is that there isn't a 20gr TNT or 20gr fmj load, just the 17gr vmax.

I have about 600 rounds stashed, Eley and Hornady. Shooting a crack barrel. Killed everything ivr shot at with it. Javelina at 97 yards is the farthest. Earholed a 250 pound boar at 40 yards with it. That being said, I am going to rechamber it to 17HMR pretty soon. I don't think ammo will be available at all in another 5 years.

Might want to retract that statement as it is illegal to shoot a game animal with a rimfire and the man is on this site. Pigs are perfectly fine though.

They are a weird little caliber but really not a big enough nitch for it to survive much longer.

                        Negative, ghostrider. Perfectly legal.

Game animals and game birds may be hunted with any legal firearm, except:

white-tailed deer, mule deer, desert bighorn sheep, and pronghorn antelope may not be hunted with rimfire ammunition of any caliber.
Specifically spells out what cannot be shot with rimfire.

I too have a stash of Eley

a good friend who is in the know with RF ammunition confirmed Eley has thrown in the towel with 17M2 production
