    Anyone reload 35 Whelen?

Looking for some tips on reloading the 35 Whelen. Specifically I have questions on resizing the neck and shoulder of 30.06 cases for the .35.

I used to... Never resized 06 brass though. You might consider going to 338 in one step then 35W as the final step for resizing.

I primarily used Speer 180gr JFP. Designed for the 35Rem but plenty tough to handle 35W velocity

I got all the stuff to load my Whelen as well, just haven't sat down to do it yet.

          JRG,

Dang I wish you were closer and we could experiment together in some loads. What rifle are you shooting? Mine is a Ruger hawk eye

Humper....do some research, like the 358 Winchester the whelen has minimal shoulder to alter & takes a little caution watching your headspace. Not as forgiving to the more traditional rounds. Get a minimum body die and adjust your fl to where you can feel the bolt start closing with some resistance & move downward to where u get little / no bolt pushbak.
It helps if u can remove the spring/ pin from the bolt body.

Pm me if you want to chat

Unless you are planning on shooting it a lot, or are really tight on money. I would suggest buying 50 pieces of brass, it will last a long time. The minimal shoulder makes it difficult to form brass and can cause headspace issues as stated above. I don have a 35 Whelen but my 9.3x62 is similar and I just buy my brass. Unless of course you are a tinkerer and don't mind spending the time to do it yourself, if so then then I would get a .357 type M die to expand it then run it thru a full length sizer to where the bolt is snug and experiment from there.

Mine is a Remington 700. I've got a few boxes of Corelock 250gr that it came with that have me taken care of for a bit, but lately I've been running Buffalo Bore with the 225gr TXS and that combo is freakin hammer!

                      Good luck
