About a month ago I stumbled across a Sporterized 03A3 in a gun shop with a beautiful piece of wood, in one on my wish list calibers, the .300 Win Mag.
As of today, all that's left for me to buy to start my load tuning is to get some brass. That will be ordered and sent home tomorrow. Then, I've got an older Leupold VX-2 2-7 scope that will be on the way as well. I plan to start my loading with IMR 4350 and H4831, and go from there. I have both 180 gn Sierra SBPT's, which is what I will be doing my powder testing with, and 180 gn Nosler Accubond's as well. Not sure which way I'll go in the end, which is why I have both. Already shot a very shots of gift ammo from a family friend through it. It's a sweet shooting piece.
I hope to get this rifle under 1/2" at the worst. I've got quite a good mentor and helper in my dad to help me with all of this. Always great to have someone to teach you things like this. He showed me his method of load tuning last summer, and I worked up a load for my 25-06, which I was able to get under and inch with out bags. That load proved deadly for many a critter this year, both in my hands and in the hands of others. I can't wait to get to load tuning this rifle, because for whatever reason, I enjoy the proper load tuning almost as much as I enjoy proper load performance
Anyway, just thought I'd share my excitement!
