If I was to buy a Savage...

rifle for hunting and punching targets out a ways, which one?? And I'm thinking 308 also...

Honestly, not a savage expert. But a normal model 10 and the variants with good optics, and some bedding work will shoot. At least, the only one I have messed with did. Proper load tuning as well. Dad has a .270 WSM. in one. It shoots...

Wondering if the SS all weather is a shooter or stick with the classic. Or a different model???

Model 12. Although I love my model 14. You can also call them and order one custom to your specs.

          I haven't had a Savage yet that wasn't a shooter.

I've got a 110 that I paid $200 for and wouldn't sell it for $1000. That thing will cut holes at 100 yards.

Shooting seriously far? Check 7mag (see bc). Nothing is close enough. Last line.

I built this and I am by no means an expert. .I was slapping a gong at 1200 yards in colorado. The guys at the range were pretty impressed with it.
Basic savage 300 wsm action and put a shilen heavy sporter barrel on it. That's about it...well I bondoed the stock and painted it but it shoots as good If not better than a lot of 3k$ guns out there after I used reloads

I'm a fan of the Mod 10 predator, I have on in 260. It's a great shooter and a good compromise between a sporter weight and one of the very heavy target rifles.

I've shot sub moa out to 400 yards with factory ammo with mine.

BTW-hog light not required, it was the only pic that was loaded on my comp.

I love my model 12 in 300wsm. It is NOT a hiking gun though. I went on a spot and stalk with it for about a mile two years ago, but I am a big guy. Can't beat the out of box accuracy with the right ammo for the gun! They make it in 308 I believe.

I had one years ago but in .243. I kick myself for selling it. At the time, I bought it for one particular deer that I had on pics, but could never pattern for bowhunting. I hunted opening morn with it but a guy about 600 yards away shot him, of course he never recovered the deer and we never saw it again, and I went ahead and shot a long horned spike at 200 yards with it. It was a neck shot and I figured if I hit him he would drop and if I missed I wouldn't have to worry about cleaning him up. Well, pulled the trigger and the deer fell over DRT. I didn't shoot it anymore and went back to bowhunting that year.

I have a Savage Model 11 in .243 that I just sent back to Savage. It shot poorly with two different loads and two different scopes. I'm hopeful that they will correct the problem.

I have 3 model 12's (6.5x284, 243, and 22-250). Great shooters but they are heavy to carry around. I would look at one of the model 10 varmint .models with the 24" heavy barrel if you are going to carry it much. All 3 I have shoot 3/8-3/4 inch at 100 yards.
