??...How to know when a pistol barrel is used up?

I have a G22c that I carried on duty and shot for many years through Qual's. Never over shot it or went crazy with it at the "shooting range".

I always shot it decent but over the past few years my accuracy went WAY down hill?????

I switched to a G17 (as I have posted on several other threads here) and have shot MUCH better.

Could it be a "used up barrel" or is it just be me?????

    Maybe?

Google the "Glock 21 Torture Test". The guy tries his hardest to kill a G21, and along the way puts over 100,000 rounds through it. Through the whole thing he is shooting it in competitions.

Worst case, you can pick up a barrel. OEM ones are pretty reasonable, even a match barrel is just over $100

Quit using qualifications to determine a gun's or your accuracy.

Draw a dot about the size of a half dollar. Go stand at the 5 yard line and with no time limit and using a good grip and trigger control, shoot a few rounds. It might help to dry fire a few times to help keep you from anticipating the recoil.

If you can start to drop them in the circle, it isn't the gun.

While that might seem obvious, sometimes it isn't. I was a looter and shooter and had been on SWAT for a few years and was a team leader (about 20 years and 35 pounds ago). I later went to an advanced SWAT shooting school. We started out the first day at the 5 yard line shooting dots. Why was that needed as we are all operators and can shoot close to 100% on quals and blah, blah, blah. I thought it was a waste of time.

Well we all could not hit the dot because we had spent years of shooting nothing but quals and shooting while moving, etc. I was one of them that needed to go back to the basics and get the fundamentals down again. Once we could all hit the dot after a few series, we went on with the school. It was actually kind of bothersome that I thought that since I had no problem shooting quals, I still had good basic skills.

Now every time I shoot, I start out somewhere at short range and making sure I have my fundamentals back down. Once I know that I am good to go, then I go on to speed and moving drills.

Maybe that isn't your problem but it might be. The lighter recoil of the 17 might not having you anticipating the shot as much.

...... or you could just give me a box of shells and let me shoot it to test it out for you.

Have you ever tried shooting lines? With a sharpie, draw a horizontal and vertical line on a cardboard target. Start at one end and shoot your way to the other end of both lines. The horizontal will diagnose trigger control issues and anticipation issues. The vertical string will show any torque or grip issues. Sooooo simple yet VERY effective drill. I too am a fan of dry firing!

I have had a few glocks with over 20k down the pipe...there was not a noticeable loss of accuracy.

Now the finish on the slide was another story..very nice and shiney!!

I have the same problem with a g22c... it shot good when I got it. .. But now its not so bueno. It's definitely not me. Others have shot it with the same poor results. And I shot another g22 just fine. .. Idk what's up but I'm starting with the barell.

Just sell it and buy another one at little to no lose. Assuming it's a Gen 3, sell it for $400. Turn around tomorrow and buy one like new for $400 to $450. Cheaper than a barrel and it will be newer.

I'm sure there is a guage you could find online to test the barrel wear. It certainly could be the barrel, you put enough rounds through a barrel and it will wear eventually. Most of the time if you put enough rounds through a handgun to use up the barrel other parts will break before you start to notice accuaracy issues. Any idea about how many rounds you put through it?

Forget that for about $100 you can get a new barrel, or buy a match barrel for $150-200. Not sure of exact price but it's not a mac book, you dont just sell it and get a new one. If you sell it like that then ur just screwing someone else over with a bad gun, some how that doesnt seem like much of a christian thing to do.

I didn't say rip someone off. Most people would be happy with decent shooting Glock. He just said the accuracy is not as good as it use to be when he bought it. Same goes for trading in you old truck.
