    AR barrel length question.

I am building my first AR and it is time to order my barrel. I just found out that the barrel I had planned on using will not be available anytime soon (16" diamond fluted bull barrel from RedX Arms) but a 20" barrel may back in stock. Are there really any disadvantages to a 20" barrel over a 16" other than weight and maneuverability? The gun will be a 223 used for target shooting and possibly a little pig hunting.

    Thanks for any advice.

If I was building g a gun for those 2 purposes, I'd have likely chosen a 20" barrel in the 1st place.

Try an 18" I wonder why they aren't more popular. A little more velocity and still easy to handle. But at closer ranges a little velocity loss or gain won't matter much. Remember too what passes for a long barrel on an AR (20") is a really short barrel on a hunting rifle.

I just sold a 20" barrel for the reasons you listed. It shot very well though.
