    Lightest 30-06 bullet?

Curious if anyone has recently shot a "super light bullet" in 30-06? Years ago I had some, don't anymore, but can't remember the bullet weight? I've looked at a several of the "box" stores but just the typical rounds you can find anywhere. A couple of my old "lease" buddies and I had tried them to see if the drop was less as distance shots increased. Funny what you will do when bored at camp between hunts. Just wondering?

think they had one in 55gr , kinda like some of the slugs ?

Remington made the accelerator it was a 55 gr .224 bullet in a sabot.

Yep, you are right as I just researched it. At least from one article I read it is no longer available unless you load your own with the sabot mentioned. Now I know why we played with it as the article also states velocity was around 4000...that's FAST!

I tried some factory 125's once, trying to get fast and flat. They did not pattern well. With laser rangefinders and ballistic algorithm programs there really is no need for ultra flat trajectory.

Yep. Trajectory is repeatable and easy. Doping the wind really sucks. No guarantee it's blowing the same where you are and at the target. The lighter the bullet the more critical it is to dope the wind right. Light bullets are affected by wind significantly more than heavy ones.

Heavier bullets with a predictable ballistic drop and accurate range-finding are the surest road to consistent long range shooting.

Gave some to my dad and told him they were for varments and DO NOT SHOOT a DEER with them. Next year pulled up to his blind and he was cleaning a blown up deer. Bone fragments from the throat to butt. I said "you used an accelerator"

I loaded some accelerators in a 300 win mag a long while back. They never made it to the target. Danged things vaporized at 20 feet from the end of the barrel. Same thing happened to some of the 110gr V-max's I loaded in the 300. Some made it to the target some didn't. I was getting some 4600fps across my chrono as I recall.

Wow....I still wish I had some of 'em stored away. When I had my hunting store in Lubbock I could not keep 'em in stock, but never had that much inventory in this round anyway. Oh well, fun finding out what happened to the round and appreciate the responses.
