Mailing a shotgun??

If I buy a shotgun from a friend in another state can he mail me the shotgun to my house or does he have to mail it to an FFL? I have been looking for answers on google and can't get a clear understanding. I figure someone on here has done this and can let me know.

Coming from another state means that it has to go to a FFL. If he lived in Texas it could go directly to you.
