Scopes - is there a difference

Between rimfire and a regular rifle scope. I have a Bushnell Dusk/Dawn 3x9x40 on a Savage 22 mag. for about a year. Went pig hunting last week and a friend said I needed a different scope....

Scopes with are marketed as rim fire typically have their parallax set at 50 yards making them fuzzy at longer distances.

Yep parallax is different unless you can adjust it, then nope they are the same.

It is not just the fuzziness that causes problems as if the parallax is set at 150 yds adn you are shoooting at typical rimfire ranges you may have "unexplained" flyers. This is caused by not getting your eye at the optical center of the scope -- at least that is how it was explained to me. How to tell if it is at 150 vs 50? Get a super solid rest and set your target at 50 and another at 150. Then aim at the 50 yd tgt and move your head ever so slightly and see whether the crosshairs move off the target. If they do, then the parallax is not set for 50. Repeat for 150 and see if the crosshairs move when you move your head. If the parallax is set correctly for the range your target is out, then the crosshaird won't move when you make the slight move of your head.
