    Red Dot position on upper????

I recently purchased and placed a Vortex Strikefire red dot on my AR.

I placed mine about in the middle of the upper rail but I see a lot of guys pushing it way up on the front of the rail.

Is there a proper location for red dots?? Thanks.

    Here's mine for reference

further forward gives more eye relief and field of view with both eyes open. Much quicker dot acquisition in my opinion.

I have the same sight and I tried mounting it in all different locations but all the way up is what felt best to me. Not sure if there is a proper location or if its just a preference.

Put it where its most comfortable for you at first. Then shoot it for awhile and see how you like it. I ended up adjusting mine father forward on the upper as I think I got good periphial vision, but everyone's different. Don't be afraid to try it in different locations after shooting it.

It will probably affect your zero a little, how much who knows. I like them all the way forward because how i use mine is as a brush gun where fast target acquisition is the #1 priority. The farther forward the more you will be able to use your peripheral vision with both eyes open

Had mine just far enough to flip my buis if needed.

Dont spend too much time fine tuning your zero until you get it where you want it. Just focus on tight groups even if there a little off.

Further forward is better for quicker sight acquisition, both eyes open shooting and expands your peripheral (no tunnel vision). My AR with an RDS is set up like post#2 with a flip up buis.

far forward as I can possibly get. better eye relief, easier sight and target acquisition, can shoot with both eyes open.
