    .300 blackout build

I recently decided to get a new at-15 platform rifle, I'm not a huge fan of the .223 - 5.56 round so I did a lot of research. I decided to go with the 300 blk. I reload my own ammo so cutting down .223 brass, that I probably have a few thousand pieces laying around, and resizing is no issue. I grabbed a Spikes stripped lower at Dury's Gun Shop here in San Antonio, also got a RRA national match (light) 2 stage trigger while I was there. I had a few old, semi complete, lower parts kits in the gun parts drawer so I was able to piece together the rest of the lower parts without spending any money. I always knew the gun part hoarding would pay off.

I got online and found a Spikes upper receiver and bolt carrier group for a really good deal so ordered those. Grabbed a 16" barrel, low profile gas block, gas tube, and charging handle from another online store for a pretty good deal. It took a while to decide on the hand guard, so many options out there. I like quad rails but I dont want a lot of weight hanging over the front end. I decided to get the Seekins Precision MCSR v2 key mod free float hand guard.

So at this point Lower is completed, all of the other parts show to be here tomorrow afternoon via fed ex and one box from USPS. The only thing I lack at this point is a good compensator for the end of the barrel, but that shouldn't be a problem. My goal was put together a good rifle for less than I could pick up a big name builders gun for. (+- $1,500 on the cheap end) I'm no newbie to building, I've built around 10 AR's in the last 7 or 8 years. All have been sub MOA rifles, one in the 1/2 MOA range. I was an armorer at the Sheriffs office so I did have training, not that you necessarily need it with the AR platform, its basically legos for adults.

Ill post up there pics of the upper and completed gun along with range reports for anyone interested in a 300 blk build. For now here is the lower.

It turned out looking really good!

Anxious to hear how it shoots.

It is a similar build concept to mine, and I love it. Had it together for about 8 months now, and it has been fantastic.

Mine turned out pretty darn accurate, it will shoot MOA, maybe a little better. I shot a group a little under 2" at just over 200 yards a couple of weeks ago with the TAC-TX bullets (which are now nearly impossible to find). Last night I just loaded up some new handloads with 300MP powder and Nosler 125's, that I am going to spend some time developing.

Looks awesome! I want to build one suppressed. But I'm not sure on all the legalities. Can I use a 7" barrel and add a can? Will a can fit inside that hand guard? Will the 300 work well in a 7" barrel?

              How much does it weigh?

Haven't had a chance to shoot yet, i have to find a place to go and load some ammo. Weight is 5lbs 4oz with mag only. No ammo or sights, so it is very light.

On the questions about barrel length and suppressor. 7" might be a hair short. Id stay in the 9" range, and a can will fit inside that hand guard. Unless you register your lower as a pistol and put no butt stock on it you will have to get one tax stamp for the short barrel rifle, then another for the can. So the cost of parts plus about 500$ and a six month wait for the paperwork to coma back. I plan on a 10" barrel and a thundertrap for mine.
