Picked up a Ruger varmint slayer

I have been patiently waiting for a Ruger 77/17 with a 24" barrel with the black and grey laminated wood with the target gray finish. I luckily found a nib old stock one and pulled the trigger on it. I got it zeroed in and it will shoot ragged holes at a 100 yards! The only thing I'm going to do is lighten the trigger to around 2 1/2 pounds. I am currently shooting 17 grain CCI pills through it. Anybody have any experience with the 20 grain game points? I'm new to the 17 hmr, It has become my favorite rimfire! Here are a few pics.

    Sweet rifle! It is beautiful.

Buy a box of everything you can find to see what your rifle likes best. I tried 17 and 20 gr variants of Hornady, Winchester, CCI and more.

I found that mine (Marlin VSF) likes the CCI TNT 17gr best.

I've had a lot of fun shooting coons and taking the heads off squirrels and rabbits with it. It has been fun for the whole family, my daughter and Mrs love shooting it as well. They like to shoot eggs at 75-100 yards with it.

Any wisp of wind will blow that little pill off course at 200+ yards, so be aware of that.

I have that exact rifle. I haven't found anything mine doesn't like. I did have mine threaded for suppressor and installed the jard trigger in it set at 1lbs 4 oz... It's a shooter.

OP that's a great looking rifle. .17HMR is a sweet little round.

OH! That's a nice rifle. Little too spendy for me, but nice.

I just ordered a lighter sear spring, be here in a couple days. I'm not messing with the sear or safety. 1lb 4oz is light, a mouse could fart and set it off.....

The spring will help. But the way the trigger is designed it has to lift the sear as you pull it. So as you pull the trigger it actually becomes harder not because of the spring tension, but because of the forced contact on the sear.

                              There's two ways around that.
                              1. New aftermarket trigger.
                              2. Re define the angle on the trigger to make less contact with the sear. (Flatten it out a tad)
