by the time you build out the 10/22 they are the same price...
True to an extent, But you cant say the same about the 17HMR/22WMR. The 10/22's are everywhere, and the options are endless.
The options for semiauto 17HMR or 22 WMR are limited. If you want a semi auto 22 lr buy a 10/22. If you want, or ever think you might want a semi-auto hmr or wmr that is where the Magnum research comes in.
Theres nothing wrong with the Magnum Research 22lr... But IMO their niche is the HMR/WMR, since finding a ruger in the same is difficult and then the aftermarket isnt stacked like it is for the 10/22.
I have one complete MR in 22wmr, and I used a MR receiver for a 22lr build. I'm very happy with both. I will say the machine work on their rifles is some of the highest quality I've seen in the 10/22 platform. I will be picking up a complete MR 22lr in the near future. They are sweet shooters, and very light weight. JMO.....
@ Coach W and D&B; why do you say not to buy a MR? Have you shot or even held one? Just curious?
Oh we aren't saying not to buy one... We are saying to buy one in hmr or wmr. ... Their niche is where ruger left off...
Yes I have shot one in 22mag. It was very sweet. I personally decided to go with the bolt action and got a ruger 77/17HMR instead. But I'd pick up a MR in 17hmr if I found the right deal.
All I'm saying is: where the semi auto MR really shines is the HMR/WMR because the other options are Nill to None if your looking for a semi auto hmr/wmr.
Spent this afternoon rearranging and sorting ammo. I never realized how much I had in assorted calibers AND that I no longer own the firearms they fit.
