managed recoil loads for 30-06...do they still exist

my son has outgrown his .223 and has been been shooting his brothers 243 and 7mm-08 in a NEF.

would like to get him a gun he can shoot from here on out. He is 13 . Would like to get a savage 111 in 30-06. would like to get a few boxes of reduced loads till he grows into thll size roue funds and never look back.

Problem is,,, I can not find managed recoil loads. they are either out of stock or discotinued.

Anyone know of a reliable place to get them or order them

I have seen 30-06 managed recoil ammo at bps in katy and marburgers sporting goods in sea brook.

Good idea to use a lighter load. I believe my Springfield .30-06 packs about 18 lbs of kick with just a 150 grain load. Don't want the young man to develop a flinch

Id agree with the above.... 30-06 isnt the ideal caliber for younger kids.... even I dont like all that recoil... its hard to beat a 7mm08 260 243... and with a muzzle brake it makes all the diff in the world... I could lay a 2 year old behind my 260 with a brake and not even put the rifle on his sholder and let him pull the trigger.... recoils like a ruger 10-22...

And thays just my rifle... ever rifle set up recoils differently... im not a savage person so I dont know how they shoot..

Hard to find but Remington Accelerator in 55gr have no recoil and travel 4,080 fps. If you can find someone to reload a 55gr with a sabot, that velocity is only an 80% powder charge. You can not shoot a sabot out of a can but a brake is fine.

Devastating at that velocity. Surprising accurate even with soft points which usually have problems.

www.ammoseek.com is a good source for in stock ammo. Currently could not find 30.06 MR but did find .270 MR. It changes daily so keep checking. I own a 30.06 and a .270 and I wont let my son shoot the .06
Until he is probably 14 or 15, but he already shoots .270 with regular loads at 9. I highly reccomend the sims recoil pads. They work wonders.

Oh, I agree, at regular loads, it is a bit stout. That is why I am looking at MR loads till he grows a little. He is 13 now. I am not fond of the muzzle brakes, due to the noise.

I am looking for a gun he will shoot rest of his life ... in Texas and beyond.

Called academy... only store that has it is in Garland... will not ship it to another store, let alone me.

Hornady does have a lite version. we'll see where this leads me...
