Anyone compete in these shoots? I'm looking for ways to get more active in the shooting world and these shoots appear fun.

I love shooting them and USPSA shoots. IDPA has A LOT more rules you have to follow. USPSA is just a get ready and blaze away type of shoot. Both are lots of fun and will definatly make you a better shooter.

I had gone to the matches at Big Rock Gun Club about an hour southeast of Dallas, but ever since the ammo shortage began last year, I stopped going. Definitely a lot of fun, though.

I'm lookong at guns and gear. I currently have a fullsize XDm in 40 but I don't think its very conducive to the speed type shooting. I'm looking at either the Glock 19 or 17 in 9mm.

I shot a Glock 23 the first year I competed in IDPA. Go on out and shoot. You will also need a holster, mag holder(not required but a whole lot easier), and a cover garment. Like a jacket or vest.

            Idpa...

is one of the fastest growing action sports in the world at the current time. I am an SO and shoot at the Bandera Gun Club nearly every month and we have a blast. There aren't that many rules, but the ones we do have are there to ensure everyone's safety. There are certain rules about weapons and classifications, holsters, etc. but not so much that it is cumbersome. I shoot a Sig 226 in 357 Sig, but there are alot of Glocks, M&P's, STI's etc. Shoot what you're accustomed to shooting.

I have an STI on order to shoot, but I ordered an IDPA pack from Blade Tech which is the holster and magazine carrier for $89 that I use with my Sig.

Give several of the shooting sports action games a try and find which one you like the most. I like IDPA because they simulate real life situations that allows you to practice tactical shooting with a time and accuracy element. Look up the classifications, etc. on the IDPA website and then go find a club to shoot at.

Dont buy anthing until you shoot a match or two. You will buy something and then buy something different once you get into it.

IDPA does have more rules, and they are not just safety based. Dont let rules determine if you go out to shoot. Learn them, follow them and have the best time possible. It does have more scenerio based course of fire, than USPSA. Most time it will tell you how to shoot the course, you just need to pull the trigger accurately.

              Have fun.
