I would say too small for my comfort, I'd go with a 22-250

Too small IMO. 223 is my bottom end, and that has a fair amount of limitations too. Even a Swift or 22-250 can be too small under some circumstances. For real open country I use a 25-06.

17 is about like a 22lr hollow point, IMO. Too many things run off unless shot right in the 10 ring.

I've shot a TON of coyotes with my .17. Nice little pinholes makes the fur buyer happy...

Shot placement, and getting them in close is key. I like to stay inside 150 yards. Can't say I've never had one run after being hit, but I've also had them run off after taking a .308...

I've killed 4 with it out to 150 yards. One was through the lungs and it only went 75 yards.

Ballistic tips, ear hole shots, under 100 yards.

I have taken a lot coons, yotes, and pigs with mine.

I don't have much experience using one on coyotes, but the time I did I knocked one down with a ballistic tip at about 50 yards while calling at night. Had to walk up and put another round in him, but he didn't run off.
