I know I can change a savage barrel but in all honesty that's probably the last direction I would go. I'd end up with a 700 long before them. I just for whatever reason don't like them a lot.

As has already been stated, you are going to end up with a $350 gun that has a lot of nice parts on it. But it will still be a $350 gun but with around $800-$1k invested in it.

Just doesn't make sense in my mind.

Why buy a ruger american when you can buy a used rem 700 and do your project for way cheaper? I'm not a gunsmith but I don't think I'd even consider building something from an American action.

To be unique. 700's, even custom ones, are a dime a dozen. Everyone has a 700. No one has a special American. Plus, its something I wouldn't mind beating up

Sounds like your mind is made up, have fun with your project.

But I can guarantee you you can sell a custom 700 much easier and for more money than you a custom American.

Not ever planning on selling it, my family very rarely (as in never that I know of). And my mind isn't made up, although I am leaning. Just looking for opinions from others on the possibility of doing it.

Seems like my thread became a "do this instead" instead of the informative on what I was considering thread

                    Fair enough.

It likely became that for a reason.
