    Handgun owning/purchasing 18-20 years old

Can someone over the age of 18 but under the age of 21 legally own/posses a pistol if it is

    A) gifted to them buy a family member?

    Or

    B) purchased from a private seller that is not an authorized dealer?

I figured if anyone would know, y'all would.

    Thanks!

This is Wdixon's son, I am pretty sure they can own a pistol (just cant buy one) but they can't buy ammo for it either. There was a sherriff around here a couple years ago that was 20 and his mother had to buy his ammo for him. (atleast thats the story I was told)

After posting this I've done some searching and it appears its legal to buy a pistol from a non FFL holding private seller, (aka my TBH friends) if you are under the age of 21. Can anyone confirm this?

Correct. As long as you are both a resident of the State of Texas.

You'll just have to get someone to buy your ammo for you

So, what you need to do, is buy a .30 carbine revolver, or a Magnum Research 30-30 or 45/70 revolver.
                    Have fun shooting those

When you are buying pistol ammo, tell them it's for a rifle. They look at you funny when you tell them 9mm is for a rifle.

Most popular pistol rounds have some sort of carbine now.
