    A-MAX bullet

I've found quite a few of the Hornady A-MAX bullet in 155 gr for .308. After doing some reading have found that they're more for target. I've also found some guys that are using them for hunting. Does anyone have any input on this?

Actually they are showing good results for hunting. I use them and load them for friends hunting rigs as well. Haven't lost any deer shot with them.

great for hunting... dont listen to the hype.
I killed my bull elk at 500yards a few months ago using amax I reloaded. They have some badazzz ballistic coef. so I gave it a try.

My buddy sold me after he took his bull last year at 723yds with the same bullet. I was saying the same doubts you have until he proved me wrong... proof is in the pudding

Is the 155 too light for a 300 win? Considering loading 165 nosler ballistic tip for the 300 and 155 amax for my 308.?

depends on how far you will be shooting..
If you are keeping it under 500 u are fine but if you want to maintain that energy out to longer ranges like me I would step it up

alot of times that shock from impact will put em down and before they regather whats going on they are done with.

im shooting 178 amax and getting over 3000fps ...300 WSM savage/shilen hvy sporter barrel

I shot 178 Amax. Only animal shot with them has been a pig at 40 yards. We never found him. Doesn't really mean a whole lot really on a hog considering how tough they are.

Bullet weight depends on your barrel twist. When I try something new I order a few from bulletsamples.com and try them before I order a box.

Never heard of them. That's a great idea.

A buddy that loves long range hunting (500+ yards) got me started using them. He said they were getting good results and weight retention. They ARE very accurate from my rifle (under 1/2 MOA), but I will not hunt with them anymore. In May I shot two Axis does with them. First slight quartering away at 110 yards. Second broadside at 85. First had no exit wound, second had very small piece of bullet exit wound. Little to no blood trail on both, but both recovered within 85 yards. My "theory" is that at closer ranges and high velocity they are detonating on impact, but longer range and lower velocity is allowing good expansion. Just my experience (308 with 178 A-MAX at close to 2700 fps).

The SST is the "hunting" bullet.

They aren't for hunting. You can kill with an FMJ. Depends on how much risk you want to take. There are better bullets with better BCs made for hunting out there. But to each his own.

                          The work good.
178 Amax on small doe quartering away.

178 Amax entry wound on a buck.

I personally won't use them. They are not designed to be a hunting bullet.

They may or may not work properly depending on circumstances.

This season Ive been shooting them suppressed and subsonic out of my 300 BLK encore. (208 gr Amax).

I was un impressed with their effects on pigs. Even with great shot placement the blood trails were non existent. If I didnt drop the pig DRT I wouldnt find it. I have a TON of the 208 gr Amax so I'm going to continue to shoot them. But I may have to try the ventura stuff (I think its Ventura) I bought the other day to see if its better.
