I believe you have to ship FFL to FFL for handguns, bud. I've never shipped a pistol, but I believe that is correct.

It depends on the receiving FFL. I had an AR sent to my FFL in Katy straight from the other person. It's their choice to accept or not. I wouldn't think pistols would be all that different.

Because of all the crap you are about to hear.

If you decide to use the Post office a FFL must send it to another FFL.

However if you use UPS or FED EX (contract carriers) you can ship a handgun in state to a resident of the same state no FFL required. The problem there lies with the folks that work at these places... Seldom do they know the laws, and since you have to declare it as a handgun, and they cant put a label on it to mark it as such then the inept starting spewing "laws" that are just plain wrong. You MUST take it to a hub to ship it with fed ex or usps, the one at the supermarket wont ship it for you, and you stand a better chance of finding an employee that knows the law at the hub.

If the guy is out of state you must ship to a FFL through a contract carrier (UPS, FED EX)... but you dont need to get an FFL to ship to a FFL. Again thats the law, but employees dont usually know it.

"A nonlicensee may ship a firearm by a common or contract carrier to a resident of his or her own State or to a licensee in any State. A common or contract carrier must be used to ship a handgun. In addition, Federal law requires that the carrier be notified that the shipment contains a firearm and prohibits common or contract carriers from requiring or causing any label to be placed on any package indicating that it contains a firearm.
            [18 U.S.C. 922(a)(2)(A), 922(a) (3), 922(a)(5) and 922(e), 27 CFR 478.31 and 478.30]"

This is all provided that person receiving the handgun can legally own it.

ALL that being said the EASIEST way of shipping a handgun in state, or out of state is have a FFL ship to the person or the person's FFL... Note that its not cost efficient, but it is time efficient. Because more than likely you will be trying to find a manager at USPS/FEDEX that knows whats going on... and even then sometimes they deny you, not out of law, but out of ignorance.

So like I said this should be good, and theres your help

It also depends on the state where it is being shipped...here in TX we ffl's can receive a handgun as long as you put a copy of drivers Lic that has your current physical address on it & has not expired. I will not accept a DL with only a PO box on your DL...ffl's need a legit ID with an address.

Most ffl's from New Jersey and a few other lefty states require ffl to ffl regardless if long or short gun.
