    Removing front sight

Just acquired two rifles and am curious how to remove the front sight from this Ithaca LSA 55 in 22-250. I'm to this point, wanting to take it off because I don't like the looks of this sight... Rear sight to follow. Click image for larger version

I bet that sight post is welded or soldered on. But I could be wrong.

Is there anyway a gunsmith could remove it? Really don't see the point of open sight on a 22-250 and 300 win mag... These are old guns and idk if removing would hurt the value at all?

They are probably soldered on, they could be removed but it will ruin the finish on the gun. You could spend the money to have it milled off then have the gun cerekoted or rebound.

Yep. Looks like it's soldered on. It's gonna cost some $$$ to get it off.

I would bet that you could heat it up with a propane torch and then hit it with a hammer and brass punch and knock it off. I'll bet it is silver soldered onto the barrel. You wouldn't want to over heat it ,but carefully.....at least that is what I would do if I wanted to remove it...

Why not have the barrel but down and recrowned or threaded for a muzzle break?

Worried about losing the 2-3" thought about that step for a few seconds. I will try to heat it. If that doesn't work I'll have smith cut, thread and add break. Will update in a few weeks/months when I finish this...
