Saw a Kahr fail to fire today at qualifications

We were doing qualifications at work and one of my co-workers was trying to qual with his backup/CCW and it just went "click" and not "bang". He cycled more rounds through it and it wouldn't fire. No primer strike whatsoever. He took the slide off, disassembled it and reassembled it, tried to fire it again and nothing. The trigger was resetting and it sounded like it was functioning properly as he was dry firing it but I guess it wasn't.

I asked him when the last time it was that he shot it and he said at our last qualification, which was in June or July. I know it worked then because I shot it too. Mind you, he has been carrying this gun as a concealed carry weapon for the last 7 months or so while off duty .....real scary!

I guess I bring this up just to say, be sure and check that your gun works if you're using/carrying it as a life saving tool and shoot it often. I know Kahrs have an excellent reputation, so I think my shock at the gun not going off was only matched or exceeded by his ghost white face and the realization he's been carrying around a paper weight for about 7 months. I really don't know how he could have known it wasn't working properly except to shoot it more often. Even then, you might go a couple of weeks or more between trips to the range and never know.

I believe it was the Kahr PM9 but I'll ask him to make sure. Has anyone heard of this happening with a Kahr?

Good thing he didn't need to use it during that time period!

Im on the fence about kahr. But i will tell you right now i would sell that gun, or at the very least not carry it. That would always be in the back of my mind and make me uneasy. Glad your buddy figured it out like he did and not when he really needed it.

Had to send my PM 40 back to Kahr 3x before it was reliable. They replaced everything but the base frame. Ran just fine after that, but still...

That's a scary thought. I had a cw45 and it would stovepipe with cheaper ammo, but it was in the 200 round break in period. Hope he gets it figured out

That wouldn't be good at all. I figure that may happen with any gun. Sure wouldn't want it to happen in my time of need. My guess is one should fire his gun often to assure that it's functioning. Looks like I'm running to the range shortly to test mine.

I had the same thing happen to me when I tried to re-qualify with a PPK i'd been pocket carrying for a while. Pocket lint and oil don't get along.

I tested a couple of Kahr's for our department for off duty carry and they did great.

On that recommendation, a detective bought one new in the box and it would not feed correct. Back to the factory and still won't feed. Sold as is for a loss and he won't be going back to Kahr.

No, I inspected it, it was clean as a whistle and lightly lubricated.

I have a cw9 mine has functioned flawlessly since new probably 300 rds. I guess it could happen to any gun if it's made it can break
