    Storing Ammunition

I just bought a safe and was wondering if I could store my ammo in the safe. Would it hurt the ammo or not? Do I need to buy a dehumidifier? Any advice would be appreciated.

There is surplus ammo sold that has been stored under lousy conditions. A lot of it is 60+ years old. Climate controlled storage is good but not necessary.

If you have room in your safe for ammo, you don't have enough guns!

Seriously, cool and dry is most important. But I keep all mine in the garage.

It will be fine in your safe if you have room.

No safe, but I keep mine in ammo boxes with silica packs to keep the moisture under control.

I keep mine in the safe with de-humidifiers. Most of it is in those sealed 50 cal ammo cans.

I'm about to buy another safe to keep ammo in.

If it's inside your house there's no need for humidity control.

On My safe the gun rack is pretty tall. Some of my shorties couldn't reach the bar, so I started stacking 100 round boxes of 45acp in the floor till they could. 3 levels just about fixed it.

The rest is setting on the shelf in the closet or on top of the safe.

This. There are people shooting 7.62x39 (AK & SKS) ammo that's been in some pretty major 3rd world holes, and they don't know it. All you need is a cool dry place.

a dehumidifier is relatively inexpensive and works great for ammo, but also for the surface of your guns that don't get a lot of attention. I keep ask my stuff in a safe as described as well as tons of silica packs that I get from work in each lot of ammo. I'd rather err on the side of caution. YMMV.

50 cal ammo boxes in the closet is fine.

Don't waste safe space on the ammo.

If you can put ammo in the safe, like others have said, you need more guns
