    Help pick scope.

I'm lookin for help pickin power range.
    3x9
    Or
    6x24
It goin on top of an AR. 5.56/223.
The gun will be used for Huntin and plinkin. Yardage will range from 50-500 yards. I have both scopes already and like the benefits they both bring to the table. What would you choose and y.

    Thank
    Adam

I am a fan of the 4-16 power range but the 3-9 will probably do everything you need it too

3-9-40 and Leopold all the way! I shoot a Leopold vx2 it does great anywhere from 25 to about 650-700 yards! the main thing I like about it is that you have MUCH better visibility in the dusk and dawn hours and its one of the clearest scopes I have ever looked through!

I already own two scopes in said power ranges. Don't have the $$$$ to buy a new one. If you could pick one of the two power ranges what would it be.

3x9 no reason for anything over that at 500 yards or less and 6 is pretty high for close shots around 50 yards especially if it's a moving target.

I believe 3x9 is what I'll go with. I have a 1.5x6 on it now with very little light gathering capabilities. An on top of that it's a "busy" Scope.

                      3-9

Good luck picking up a moving critter at 6X. For what the .223/5.56 is capable of the 6-24 is too much magnification.

What kind of shooting do you intend to do?

26x is a lot but I am gonna go against the grain here becasue I like higher magnifications. I have done pretty well out to 575yds with 4x14x40 on an FNAR 308. If you already have them try them both out and see what you like best and see which you are comfortable with at shooting 50-500yds. It is a variable scope so 24x can always come down to 9x right

Thats easy. On my coyote gun I have a VX3 3.5-10x50... I keep it on 6X 90% of the time and shoot coyotes on the run all the time. Unless a coyote gets held up at long range and I crank it up to 10X.

A good bipod or shooting sticks makes the world of difference.

To the OP: Leupold makes the Mark AR series, specifically for what you are asking.

I have a Mark AR 6-18x40 on My varmit AR and never have a problem with fast acquisitions. Muscle memory plays a big role too though.

                          The Mark AR comes in:

                          1.5-4x20mm
                          3-9x40mm
                          4-12x40mm
                          6-18x40mm

And my opinion for what you want 50-500 yards I'd go with the 4-12 or the 6-18.

Deer and varmints(day&night). We have steel plates set up out to 523 yards at the lease we play with. I have a 4x12x40 on my 788 and really like it. Might just save up for the same.

What scopes do you currently have? I know you mentioned the powers but what are they?

My off the cuff answer is the 3-9 will do anything you need it to do.
