    shotgun question... which barrel?

    i want to get a shotgun barrel for my t c encore. i want to be able to shoot slugs and regular shot shells. can regular shot shells be shot out of a rifled barrel? should i just shoot rifled slugs out of a smooth bore? Id also like to mount a scope on barrel.

    let me hear whatcha think.

      The rifling will cause the shot to spin and will blow your pattern. If you want to shoot shot and slugs out of the same barrel, get a smooth bore and shoot rifled slugs.

        To get the best accuracy out of both you need two barrels. One rifled and one smooth. The rifled barrels will come drilled and tapped for the scope and the Hornady slugs work really well in that set up.
        I have no idea about running shot through a rifled barrel, I guess it would work but may spread the pattern really bad because the shot cup would be spinning as it left the barrel...or you could throw really awesome patterns and be the next Benelli trick shooter!

          thats what i need to know, thanks!

          now what if smooth bore barrel has screw in chokes? what choke do you use for a slug? does it matter?

            Best use cylinder or improved cylinder for rifled slugs. They will shoot through tighter chokes but the accuracy won't be there.

              If the barrel has screw in chokes, you can try improved cylinder or modified with rifled slugs. If you want to use sabot slugs, buy a rifled choke tube. If you are buying a TC factory shotgun barrel, they use the Mossberg Accu-Choke tubes. Lots of options out there with that thread pattern. I had the turkey barrel for mine, almost regret letting it go, but I have other turkey specific shotguns.

                have you ever patterned a shotgun, yes? notice how on your shot pattern has a concentration of shot that makes up the pattern and the there are the inevitable "flyers".....that is because when you squeeze the trigger, the shot is immediately pushed through a forcing cone to help gain forward propulsion. When that happens, lead shot has some pellets that deform and bounce down the barrel and are no longer aerodynamic and fly wherever. Steel shot does not deform and when they go through the cone they start to bounce down the length of the barrel and hit the air at he end of the muzzle as flyers.
                I see two problems.... bouncing shot will inevitably jack up your rifling and sacrifice accuracy on your slugs over time. Secondly I do not see a rifled barrel having a forcing cone because they do not need or require one so shot patterns will be no existent with shot and you will not get the FPS that the shell is capable of because they do not have the forcing cone to do what it is designed to do...............
                I said all of that to say this.....you need two barrels bro
